Stamford, CT.- The Stamford chapter of AHEPA and the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels are planning a fundraiser for the benefit of the recent Greek fire victims through the AHEPA Emergency Greek Fire Relief Fund. On Saturday, November 3, we will offer our audience the opportunity to support this worthy cause while enjoying an unforgettable musical experience, The Complete Julie, featuring Julie Ziavras, in a program of beloved classical, Broadway and Greek favorites and some touching original songs. The doors of the Churchʼs hall (at 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06905) will open at 7:00 p.m. for a buffet of Greek appetizers and refreshments, including wine. The concert will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 if pre-paid in October or $50 if paid in November ($20 for students, free for children under 12).
The Proini newspaper has described Julie as “the most fantastic voice I had ever heard from the Greek community… her performance was direct and sensitive… a voice so multi-faceted that when she sings, she takes you with her climbing the stairs of the angels.”
Many of us are familiar with Julie as an accomplished interpreter of Greek popular songs, but few of us have experienced her other three sides. As a classically trained soprano, she has won praise for her vocal beauty, musicianship, and dramatic stage persona with repertory that spans opera, art song, and contemporary music. Her recent collaboration with celebrated pianist / composer and Broadway orchestrator Steve Margoshes has revived her interest in songs for the musical stage. And as part of the acoustic folk duo “Ken and Julie”, she frequently performs traditional folk and original songs written by her husband, singer/songwriter Ken DeAngelis. Now, for the first time ever, her previously compartmentalized audiences have the opportunity to witness the magic of The Complete Julie in a program that combines all four sides of her incredible talent. This is also a unique opportunity for the wider Greater Stamford community to get introduced to Julieʼs beautiful voice in the context of an international musical program.
The widespread fires throughout Greece have devastated entire communities. Thousands of Greek families are without homes, shelter, clothing and food. They have lost everything, except hope. The AHEPA Emergency Greek Fire Relief Fund has been established to channel donations directly to the local relief efforts in Greece.
