Athens.- (GreekNewsOnline, ANA-MPA)
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will attend a working lunch on the sidelines of the NATO Summit, with the participation of US President Donald Trump and European leaders who spend significant funds on arms procurement, according to government officials. According to a U.S. senior official, Trump will have a working lunch with representatives of the following nations: Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and the United Kingdom.
Asked if there will be any bilateral or other interaction between Trump and Erdogan, and what the President’s message to him will be at the summit, particularly given the S-400 activation, the U.S. Senior Administration official said:
“President Erdoğan was just here a few weeks ago. The President spent several hours in direct diplomacy with him then. We do not have a separate bilat scheduled for the NATO Summit. I suspect President Erdoğan will hear from many Alliance members that — their concern over the activation of the S-400 radar.
We have been very, very blunt with him that that radar is inconsistent with Turkey’s duties as a NATO member, and particularly its participation in a bilateral sense in the F-35 program. That message will be reinforced across the Alliance.”
MITSOTAKIS IN WASHNGTON?
According to Greek daily “Kathimerini”, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is to meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington on January 7. The meeting – “Kathirini” reported – comes at a critical time for Greece, with large numbers of migrants arriving on the Aegean islands every day and Turkey ratcheting up its demands in the region, notably with a memorandum of understanding with Libya that seeks to delineate maritime zones. Mitsotakis plans to meet Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan Wednesday, during the NATO Summit in London. But the meeting has not been confirmed yet.”
According to “Athens News Agency”, Greek government officials do not confirm that the meeting between Mitsotakis and Trump in the White House will be held on January 7, but they said that this is one of the dates proposed.
