FATHER ALEX KARLOUTSOS of Kimisis Tis Theotokou Church in the Hamptons, really knows how to put on a show. Last year, their festival raised over $250,000 and this year they surpassed that amount. In the few hours which were spent at the festival on Saturday we saw people who came from all over for this event. JAMES STEFATOS, ALEX ANAGNOS, PETER and JIMMY PANTELLIDIS, EVRIS KONTOS, DR. ANTOINE HAROVAS, SAVAS KONSTANTINIDES, DIMITRIS PANAGOS (who also took photos) and JOHN CASSIMATIS, who all brought their families to celebrate. On the drawing board is a plan for a new $5 million church for the Hampton’s community. The architect is COSTAS KONDYLIS, who is venturing out to do his first ever church. The plans look great and you know this project will be well funded.
On the heels of BASILE and his success there is plenty of room for another comedienne. A Greek-American comedian, ELLEN KARIS who revels in her heritage, she believes that the Greek-American experience is fast becoming an integral part of the growing multicultural mix in the United States. Having been influenced by comedic masters such as JERRY SEINFELD and LUCILLE BALL, KARIS describes herself as JACKIE MASON meets NIA VARDALOS. A definite up and coming artist, KARIS has appeared in comedy clubs throughout New York and the east coast. Her numerous television credits include appearances on The Sopranos, 100 Center Street, and As the World Turns. This stand-up comedienne will perform at Caroline’s on Broadway on Monday, August 18th at 7 p.m. For information and reservations call 212-757-4100. Move over BASILE, there is a “new kid” in town.

GEORGE TSOUNIS held a fundraiser for Assemblyman MICHAEL GIANARIS in Long Island and raised five thousand dollars. This amount added to Gianaris’ already healthy account will be filed with the NYS Board of Elections, which should bring him to around $700,000. This is quite a hefty amount for Gianaris and his bid for statewide office. Bravo to Mike. The long road lies ahead and much more money must be gathered for MIKE GIANARIS to be a viable candidate. That is why all Hellenes must help in the next few years, to give him the best shot possible to become a statewide office holder.
