The DISTRICT 4 & 5 AHEPA CONVENTIONS will be held on the weekend of June 13th, 14th and 15th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Besides the business at hand social events will highlight this weekend.
THE GREEK AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE will sponsor their 2003 GOLF OUTING on Monday, July 14th at FOX HOLLOW GOLF CLUB in Sommerville, NJ. It will be a “shotgun start” at 12:30 p.m., with a barbecue lunch and a buffet dinner at 5:00 p.m. The fees are $175 per golfer. Deadline is register is June 16th. ASSEMBLYMAN MICHAEL GIANARIS is co-sponsoring the 3rd Annual Community Health Fair, on Saturday, June 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p. m. at ST. Francis of Assisi Church School Yard, located at 21st Avenue between 45th and 46th Streets. This effort is being co-sponsored by The Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens and the United Community Civic Association and is open to the public. Bring your family down for “FREE” health screenings for Asthma, Bone Density, Vision Screening, Massage Therapy, Nutrition Counseling, Podiatry, Depression and much more. Make sure to bring the children to visit with the clowns, get face painting, balloons and other goodies. There will also be “FREE” refreshments. This is truly a family event and a fun day for all.
THE GREEK AMERICAN INSTITUTE celebrated its 90th Anniversary and honored John Catsimatides, graduate of 1962 and Mary Garofalakis, teacher and principal from 1969 to 1979. Approximately 160 alumni shared fond memories with classmates and teachers. G.A.I. as it is known has to be the oldest parochial school in the New York Metropolitan area, having been established in 1912.
ZOODOHOS PEGHE in The Bronx, holds it 2003 Grecian Festival from June 18th through June 22nd. The festival, which includes the traditional Greek foods, pastries, music and dancing sponsors a huge raffle for only $20, with the first prize being a 2003 Grand Am or $15,000 cash. Sounds like a great way to spend a day.
“The Oil-For-Food Program” is the topic for BENON V. SEVAN, the Under Secretary General, on Tuesday, June 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 780 3rd Avenue (48th Street) Auditorium in Manhattan. The event is sponsored by the Cyprus-U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Cyprus Trade Commission and the Consul General of Cyprus. Benon V. Sevan is a national of Cyprus and was appointed by the Secretary-General Kofi Annan and presently serves as the Executive Director of the Iraq Programme. A reception will follow featuring Estate Wines from Cyprus’ Regional and Boutique Wineries.
