Bush’s handlers are brilliant or desperate. Look at the headlines:
Bush in Bagdad for Thanksgiving, OBush Stuns Soldiers in Iraq, Hail to the Chief, “The Man Who Came To Dinner”, Bush Delivers a Holiday Surprise. Their strategy is, you are on the offensive or the defense. If you are on the defense, you are losing. The Republicans are on a roll, in the media war. They packaged George Bush II to be their candidate and they grabbed the White House in 2000. But, every time Bush opened his mouth to make a statement, without notes, his close advisors cringed. When he visited Australia and Britain, he had to sneak in and out, to avoid anti-war protests. You cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
But they get away with it. They are on the offensive. They take action and everything false in place. The Bushies pushed their 1.3 trillion dollar tax break for the needy few, the wealthy. Now the Medicare, on ‘borrowed’ money. They lied about the W.M.D Saddam Hussein had, the Niger connection, and his ties to Al Queda. Colin Powell (with George Tenet immediately behind him for the camera) claimed on Feb. 5, 2003 at the U.N. that Saddam Hussein had 6,500 tons of VX nerve gas. Where is it? Where are the W.M.D. and the links to Al Queda? As former CIA analyst Chalmer Johnson writes in Z Magazine (Nov. 2003) ³Ahmed Chalabi was quite clearly inventing the intelligence that he thought the Pentagon wanted to hear. The “neocons” decided to overthrow Saddam Hussein, get the oil, and get rid of a threat to Israel. 9/11 provided the excuse to go to Afghanistan and Iraq, instead of Saudi Arabia, home of the 15 terrorists in 9/11. War is profits for the rich, the costs in money and lives for the many.
The soldiers were told by Bush on Thanksgiving they are doing an honorable duty and a heroic service to their country. Most of them would take the first plan out of there, faster than the 2 1/2 hours Bush had to spend at the Baghdad airport for photo opportunities. Where is the heroism? It was all military technology. It is a slaughter of innocent people from high altitude bombardments. “The commanders”, Johnson states, “were hundreds of miles away in air-conditioned tents looking at cathode-ray tubes and giving their orders.” This warfare was not combat. There was no combat fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Talibans shaved the beards and disappeared. They are now regrouping. The Iraqi army disbanded. The anti-occupation forces are now killing Americans, one by one. They hate freedom, Bush says. They also hate occupation. Their attacks are carried out in Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The global war on terrorism will lead to a global response. Soldiers are moving targets, they kill or get killed.
The Bushies will be on the offensive until November 2004. There will be many more surprises by 2004. The biggest offensive is against us, our civil liberties. The books we read, our credit cards, and our e-Mail are subject to snooping, without legal recourse. The Muslims are first, foreigners are second, and we are next. Due process has been thrown out of the window in the Homeland Security Act. If you are against the war, you are not patriotic. If you criticize the Bushies, then you are on the side of terrorism and Saddam Hussein. They are pushing the right buttons, on the road to the White House less than a year from now. Can they pull it off in 2004? They can, if the American people do not wake up.
