Garrison, NY.- The board of the Directors of Saint Basil Academy issued a statement expressing disappointment over N.Y. Appeals Court Decision that affirmed a lower court’s ruling that Garrison Union Free School District is not responsible for the costs of educating children living in a child care institution (in this case Saint Basil Academy) located within district boundaries.
“The board of trustees and administration of Saint Basil Academy is deeply disappointed with the decision made by the New York State Court of Appeals. Although we respect the Court of Appeals’ decision, we fervently maintain it came to a wrong conclusion.
Despite this setback, Saint Basil Academy will continue to meet its mission by providing Orthodox children with a safe haven and a home in a nurturing environment that dutifully attends to their developmental, educational, spiritual, and material needs.
We sincerely thank the individuals and entities who supported Saint Basil Academy during this process.”
Founded in 1944, Saint Basil Academy is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
