WASHINGTON, DC.- On the occasion of the completion of our 15th annual conference in Washington D.C. (May 12-14, 2004), we, the International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA), the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE), the United Hellenic American Congress (UHAC), the Coordinated Effort of Hellenes (CEH) and the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (POMAK), having examined the latest developments on the Cyprus issue, declare the following:
Congratulate the Republic of Cyprus for its long awaited and much deserved accession to the European Union on May 1, 2004.
Express our gratitude to President George W. Bush and his administration for assistance to the Republic of Cyprus.
Urge the United States Administration to continue the pressure for a solution to the Cyprus problem, on the basis of United Nations Resolutions and the values of democracy.
Express our support and admiration to the Cypriot people who continue their struggle, with perseverance and determination, to end the forcible division and occupation of Cyprus.
Call on the Hellenes in Cyprus, Greece and the Diaspora to remain united in our common effort for the reunification of Cyprus and its people.
Support the efforts of the Government of Cyprus and its President, Mr. Tassos Papadopoulos, to achieve a just, lasting and functional settlement to the Cyprus problem in the context of Cyprus’ accession to the European Union.
