“The ceremony in memory of Apostles Peter and Paul offers a chance to seal the pledge of the two Churches for reconciliation and solidarity,” stressed leader of the worldʼs Orthodox Christians, Patriarch Bartholomew I in his meeting with Pope Benedict at the Vatican on Saturday.
At the end of the talks, the two spiritual leaders exchanged gifts, with Bartholomew introducing his escort to the Pope.
The Ecumenical Patriarch was accompanied by Archbishop Demetrios of America and other hierarchs.
