ATHENS – Karolina Pelentritou won the first ever gold medal for Cyprus, in the Athens Paralympics in Women’s 100m Breaststroke – SB13.
“I didn’t really expect it. I am very happy I broke the Paralympic Record. All the hard work finally paid off with this medal. I want to thank everybody who helped me and supported me, my coach, and especially my mother.”, she said.
Pelentritou broke the Paralympic Record:
Anthi Karagianni of Greece won the silver medal in the women’s F13 long-jump final on Saturday, with a jump of 5.29 metres. It was her second medal in the 12th Athens Paralympic Games and the 11th for Greece.
Meanwhile German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, who arrived in Athens on Saturday on a one-day visit on the occasion of the Athens Paralympic Games, visited the indoor Athens Olympic Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Competitions in thirteen sports are being held on the eighth day of the Paralympic Games, including finals in seven sports: Wheelchair Tennis, Powerlifting, Swimming, Road Cycling, Athletics, Archery and Wheelchair Rugby.
