A dream to many is to have a refreshment watching a panoramic view od the Acropolis in Athens. Our friends exguides Erica Haralambithou and Doris Christopoulou drove us to the modern Dionysos Zonar’s Café. It is on the outskirts of the Acropolis. In the day and evening, he/she sees a panoramic view of the Acropolis and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (Herodion). The café at Roverto Galli 43 has been in operation for 50 years. Knowing and having local reeks for company opens a new world, trip advisor that states it for very little cost. Local Greeks know where to go and avoid expensive tourist traps.
Architect Prokopios Vassiliadis designed and planned by landscape designer Dimitris Pikionis in the 1960’s around the citadel of Filopapou. Painter Yannis Moralis and ceramist Helen Bernardaki created the interior and exterior. Unesco in 1995 recognized the café as a monument of modern architecture. We had beverages for 4.5 euros, ice cream between 9-12 euros. All ice creams are house made with fresh ingredients. Rice dishes with chicken fillet ranged from 8.5 to 13 euros. I disagree with internet reviews that state it is pricey. Every euro is worth it to enjoy an evening watching the Acropolis.
