Cyprus issue tops their agenda; The Prime Minister of Greece will meet Presidents Donald Trump and Tayyip Erdogan

Prime Minister Mitsotakis of Greece and President Anastasiades of Cyprus are in New York for the proceeding of the 74th General Assembly of the United Nations from 23-27 of September and have important meetings with Secretary General Antonio Guterres and other leaders. Cyprus issue and the efforts to resume talks are topping their agenda.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis is also expected to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, as well as Turkish President Tayyip Ergogan.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Kostas Fragogiannis and Government Spokesperson Stelios Petsas. There are already in New York, Minister of the Interior Takis Theodorikakos, Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni and Minister of Education Niki Kerameos (for the Climate Summit) and Vice Minister for Greek Abroad Antonis Diamataris.
President Anastasiades is accompanied by Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides and the Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromos.
Minister of Agriculture Kostas Kadis is also in New York for the Climate Summit.
– On Monday, September 23, the Prime Minister will address the UN Climate Summit. On the same day, he will attend an event held by the Presidents of France, Colombia and Chile on the issue of deforestation following the Amazon fires.
– On Tuesday, September 24, he will attend the inauguration of the 74th UN General Assembly and will also attend the International Advisory Board meeting of the Atlantic Council. On the same day, Mitsotakis will attend a Goldman Sachs event in the presence of investors.
– On Wednesday, September 25, the Prime Minister will attend the Bloomberg Global Business Forum. Mitsotakis will also attend a lunch by US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross in the presence of investors. In the same evening he will deliver a speech at an event of ex-patriate Greeks organizations in Astoria, NY.
– On Thursday, September 26, the Prime Minister will meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and will be the keynote speaker at a Council on Foreign Relations event.
-On Friday, September 27, the Prime Minister will address the plenary of the 74th UN General Assembly.
Bilateral meetings scheduled as follows:
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to meet with state leaders including US President Donald Trump (24/9), Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (25/9), Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison (24/9) and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi (26/9).
Mitsotakis will meet with Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama (23/9) and Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev (24/9), as well as with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic (23/9), President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci (23/9) ) and the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili (24/9).
The Prime Minister’s bilateral contacts with President of Colombia Ivan Duque Marquez (23/9), Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas (23/9) and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan (24/9) are also scheduled.
It is noted that, as already agreed, PM Mitsotakis will meet with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiades (26/9). On the same day he will meet with representatives of Jewish organizations, the Archbishop of America Elpidoforos and ex-patriate Greeks organizations.
President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades is arriving in New York via London on Sunday. In London, he delivered a speech on Saturday, at a dinner hosted by the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK to inform them on the latest developments on the Cyprus problem.
In New York the President he will meet with the UN Secretary General, heads of state or government who will take part in the UN General Assembly and representatives of the five permanent members of the Security Council.
He will also participate in the UN Climate Action Summit 2019 convened by the UN Secretary General.
President Anastasiades is also scheduled to meet the leadership and members of the Cypriot Diaspora as well as American – Jewish organisations.
On Sunday, President Anastasiades will meet the leadership of the American Jewish Committee and in the evening attend dinner with the leadership of the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations.
On Monday, 23 September, President Anastasiades will hold meetings with Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of the People`s Republic of China and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
On the 24 September, President Anastasiades and First Lady Andri Anastasiades, will attend a reception hosted by the UN Secretary General for the heads of states who will take part in the General Assembly. He will also confer with Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev.
The Cypriot President will attend lunch hosted in honour of the heads of states and in the evening, President Anastasiades and the First Lady will attend a reception hosted by the US presidential couple.
On Thursday, 26 September, President Anastasiades will address the UN General Assembly and will meet with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He will also confer with India’s PM Narenda Modi. In the evening he will attend dinner hosted by the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations.
President Anastasiades’ meeting with SG Guterres will take place on 27 September. It will be followed by a meeting with Archbishop Elpidophoros of America at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. He will also attend lunch hosted by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
The President and his entourage return home on 29th September.
On Monday, 23 September, Mr Dendias will attend the Meeting of EU Foreign Ministers, where he will have the opportunity to set out Greece’s positions on issues of European, regional and global interest.
On Tuesday, 24 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will host the Quadrilateral Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania at the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations, and will attend the EU High-Level Event on Syria.
On Wednesday, 25 September, the Ministerial Meeting of the member states of the Ancient Civilisations Forum (ACForum) will convene for the third consecutive year and the Minister of Foreign Affairs will subsequently attend the second Trilateral Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Greece, Cyprus and Armenia. He will then represent our country at the Transatlantic Dinner hosted by the US Secretary of State, M. Pompeo.
On Thursday, 26 September, N. Dendias will host an informal working breakfast for the member states of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, the Chairmanship of which Greece took over on 01 July 2019.
On Friday, 27 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will host this year’s Trilateral Meeting of Greece, Cyprus and Egypt, with discussions to focus on promoting security and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean.
On the margins of the proceedings of the Ministerial Week, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will attend numerous bilateral meetings with, among others, his counterparts from China, Cyprus, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Norway and Brazil.
The Minister’s itinerary in New York will conclude with attending the speech of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, before the UN General Assembly Plenary Meeting.
On the sidelines of the Session, Christodoulides will hold a number of meetings and contacts with his counterparts, as well as with officials from regional and international organizations, a Foreign Ministry statement said. Among other, he is expected to have bilateral meetings with counterparts from Greece, Rwanda, India, Andorra, Libya, Ethiopia, Norway, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Laos, Morocco, Lebanon, Iraq, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan.
In addition to bilateral contacts, the Foreign Minister will attend together with his Greek counterpart, trilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Armenia respectively, and will also have a number of meetings with officials of international organizations, including the Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, the Secretary-General of the Arab League and with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Furthermore, Christodoulides will attend the informal meeting of the European Union Foreign Ministers, as well as the 19th Meeting of Commonwealth Foreign Ministers, and will also attend the dinner to be hosted by the US Secretary of State for the Foreign Ministers of EU and NATO Member States, and a ministerial-level working dinner on the Middle East organized by the International Institute for Peace.
Christodoulides will accompany the President of the Republic to his meetings with the UN Secretary-General, with the Prime Ministers of Greece, India and North Macedonia, and the Foreign Ministers of Russia and China, respectively, as well as with the Permanent Representatives of the five permanent members of the Security Council.
