New York, NY – (GreekNewsOnline)
Archbishop Elpidophoros of America led a Memorial Service at the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine with surviving families of those Orthodox Christians who perished on 9/11 along with members of the Friends of St. Nicholas. The Memorial included prayers for all who were lost that day in the terrorist attacks on New York, Washington, DC, and those who perished in Shanksville, PA.

In his remarks to the families who were present, Archbishop Elpidophoros offered the following: “Today, in this day of unspeakable sorrow for you, I want all of you to know that we stand with you, we pray with you, and we remember with you. We have gathered here in front of the Saint Nicholas Church and National Shrine, which is once again under construction, in order to offer unto our Heavenly Father – the names, the souls, and the memories of those who perished nineteen years ago, this very day. … We will never forget; we will never allow the world to forget. The rebuilt Saint Nicholas Church will be an everlasting memorial to their lives. It will also be both a spiritual home and a spiritual hospital for you, the survivors, to come and find healing and fellowship.”
St. Nicholas was the only house of worship destroyed on 9-11. The New St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox & National Shrine at the World Trade Center, under the leadership of Archbishop Elpidophoros and the Friends of St. Nicholas is now well under construction. In honor of all the victims memorialized today, the recently completed dome of the church will be illuminated tonight shining light into the darkness.

That your earlier version of the same article had a slightly different slant to it. Where did it go? Comments associated with that article were also deleted….
The photograph originally depicted showed the small number of attendees standing on the other side of the table as well as the priests, AB Elpidophoros and others totaling approximately 13 people or so… I find your clever quick editing and so called “reporting” terribly misleading so that you can change what was originally shown and written to illustrate only what you see as being significant to report today. Now as a staff writer of the GN, you have eliminated that photo and have replaced it with the one currently shown above. Why?
It’s important to note that not only do we honor by remembering the many thousands of Greeks, other nationalities and citizens who lost their lives as a result of this horrific terrorist series of events which destroyed the tiny Greek Orthodox Church nearby, but we also notice how small in the number of attendees at the service in front of the ST. CALATRAVA SHRINE.
Yes, a SHRINE-MOSQUE which was paid for by thousands of generous Greek Orthodox contributors over and over again shrouded in secrecy as to how and why the monies donated for the construction disappeared and then magically
“reappeared” and now claimed by a few wealthy Archons, priests, and AB Elpidophoros as being “solvent”?
Tell me please, since you are a thorough, honest fact driven reporter, who will bear the brunt of paying for the ongoing maintenance, building upkeep, repairs, the architectural defects which Santiago Calatrava is so notoriously known? When we begin calling this a “Shrine for all faiths” what we actually mean is the term Mosque. I’m sorry to say, that there is NO GOD in a Shrine or a MOSQUE. The misguided hierarchy of the GO Church and their now very public display of going “Global” politically to attract people of “all faiths” is yet another fallacy and lie to those lives lost which deserve better. A Christian Greek Orthodox Church in AMERICA has in essence, replaced GOD for paganism.
