By Rena Dourou, Governor of Region of Attica
“Let’s go to Greece, let’s go to Attica”. This year. Next year as well. Each time we look for a whole new impression, a secret place, scenery linking the past with the present, an outstanding climate, a unique light. Each time we seek to combine culture with tourism. Each time we seek a tourist destination which goes beyond the traditional concept. Visiting Attica is not an imperative; it is a matter of heart. Attica is the special destination called “home”. The irreplaceable and unique place to be.
Its irreplaceability and uniqueness lie in its monuments, its products, its light, as well as its people. As everybody knows, a place is imbued with the spirit of its people. The people of Attica are perhaps its most valuable asset. They are indeed the best “instrument”, the most efficient “means” for its promotion. Attica’s citizens constitute a great advantage that renders this region an attractive destination.
A destination which, especially today, outstands itself through establishing a number of policies of openness, via European and national funding, not just to improve the services provided but also to redesign them effectively on the basis of current, reliable, and high-quality data, new products and services, as well as a new form of management in regards to the above.
The aim is to highlight the destination’s uniqueness through a new approach, in the context of an overall strategic planning aiming to stress the metropolitan nature of Attica, while developing forms of tourism that bring together all of its comparative advantages. Therefore, an all-year round destination is given particular attention through coordinated promotional activities, so as to highlight Attica’s various and multiple comparative advantages — important alternative tourism products, as well as possibilities offered though the use of new promotion tools.
Therefore this year, and not just in summer but in all seasons of the year, “Let’s go to Greece, let’s go to Attica”. Because we ought— especially now — to safeguard traditional and universal values. The values which make the difference.
