All opinion polls published on Friday – last day permitted by law – show SYRIZA holding a commanding lead, two days before Sunday’s elections. The poll findings show SYRIZA unable to have a majority of 151 in parliament enables the leftist party to form a government without other party’s support.
“We can be the winners on election night, we can lead the new government,” New Democracy (ND) party spokesperson Maria Spyraki on Friday said, commenting on the findings of the opinion polls.
“We are optimistic. And our optimism is based on the findings that show the people rallying together in support of ND,” she said.
Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) led New Democracy (ND) with 5.2 percentage points in vote intent, ahead of Sunday’s national elections, in a poll conducted by MRB for Star private TV station released on Friday.
According to the poll, SYRIZA got 31.2% and New Democracy got 26%, followed by To Potami with 6.5%, Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) with 5.5%, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) with 4.5%, PASOK with 4%, Independent Greeks (ANEL) with 3.2% and Movement of Democratic Socialists (Kinisi) with 2.4%, while 13.2% declined to answer.
Asked to choose between ND leader Antonis Samaras and SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras as best choice for prime minister, 37.3% chose Samaras and 33% chose Tsipras.
GPO for Mega TV
Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) led over New Democracy with 6.7 percentage points, according to a poll on vote intent by private GPO conducted nationally from January 20 to 23, 2015 for private Mega TV station and released on Friday, prior to national elections on Sunday.
Asked “which party they would likely vote for if elections were held tomorrow,” 33.4% voted for SYRIZA and 26.7% for New Democracy (ND).
They were followed by Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) with 5.1%, PASOK and To Potami with 5% each, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) with 4.9%, Independent Greeks (ANEL) with 3.5%, the Movement for Democratic Socialists (Kinima) with 2.9% and Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) with 1.4%. The rest were divided among “Other party” (2.4%), Blank/Invalid (0.4%) while another 9.3% declined to answer.
Asked to choose who between ND leader Antonis Samaras and SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras was better suited for prime minister, 40.1% chose Samaras and 38.6% chose Tsipras. Another 19.4% said “nobody” (the poll noted that this was stated “spontaneously”).
E-Voice
Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) has a 2.9 percentage point lead over ruling coalition leader New Democracy (ND) in a new nationwide opinion poll conducted by E-Voice for “newpost.gr” and published on Friday.
Based on the results of the poll, 26.1 pct of the respondents said they would vote for SYRIZA in the elections on Sunday, 23.2 pct for New Democracy. Third follows To Potami and Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) with 4.8 pct, the Communist Party of Greece (ΚΚΕ) with 4.7 pct, Pasok with 4 pct, the Independent Greeks (ANEL) 3.4 pct and the Movement of Democratic Socialists (Kinima) with 2.3 pct.
A further 5 pct chose a party other than the above, 3.9 pct said they wanted none of the parties and the percentage of undecided voters was 15.2 pct. Another 2.6 pct didn’t answer.
The survey was conducted from January 18-20.
Interview for Vergina TV
Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) has a 5.5 percentage point lead over ruling coalition leader New Democracy in a new nationwide opinion poll conducted by Interview for Vergina TV and published on Friday.
Based on the results of the poll, 30.1 pct of the respondents said they would vote for SYRIZA in the elections on Sunday, 24.6 pct for New Democracy, 5.5 pct for Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi), 5.0 pct for Potami, 4 pct for the Communist Party of Greece (ΚΚΕ), 3.9 pct for PASOK, 2.2 pct for the Independent Greeks (ANEL), 1.6 pct for the Movement of Democratic Socialists and 0.8 pct for Greens-Democratic Left (DIMAR). A further 4.7 pct chose a party other than the above, 5.2 pct said they would cast a blank/spoiled vote and the percentage of undecided voters was a significant 12.5 pct.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras was selected as most suitable for prime minister by 38 pct and SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras by 32 pct.
The poll was conducted on January 22-23 by telephone interview using a sample of 1,005 people.
In the previous Interview opinion poll for Vergina TV published a week ago, SYRIZA had 30 pct and a 1.9-point lead over ND, with 28.1 pct.
Epameinontas Panas
Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leads with 2.8 percentage points over main coalition partner New Democracy (ND) in voting intent, according to an opinion poll conducted by Economic University of Athens professor Epameinontas Panas for private TV station “E”.
Asked “which party would you vote for”, 32.1 pct of respondents said SYRIZA and 29.3 pct chose ND. In the previous survey of professor Panas, SYRIZA had 30.9 pct and ND 26.4 pct.
Third follows Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) with 5.8 pct, Pasok with 5.7 pct, To Potami with 5.5 pct, Communist Party of Greece (ΚΚΕ) with 4.7 pct, Independent Greeks (ANEL) with 4.1 pct, Kinima with 2.8 pct, Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) 1.3 pct, Andarsya with 0.8 pct, Greens – Democratic Left (DIMAR) 0.6 pct.
“Other party” was chosen by 1.8 pct, while 1.0 pct said they would cast a blank or invalid ballot. Another 3.8 pct said they’re undecided and 0.6 pct didn’t answer.
The nationwide survey was conducted among 5,593 people from January 17-22.
