PSEKAʼs President Philip Christopher on the election of Nick Karacostas
New York.- By Apostolos Zoupaniotis
A person that feels really proud for the election of Nick Karacostas as Supreme President of the AHEPA, is the President of the International Coordinating Committee “Justice of Cyprus” (PSEKA) Philip Christopher. He is not only the younger brother of Karacostas mother Soteroula, but also as the President of the Pancyprian Association of America he has followed Nickʼs steps as a member of the Pancyprian Youth and later on as a player of the Pancyprian Soccer Team.
Philip Christopher with his involvement with the Community and his struggle for Cyprus and the other national issues was Nick Karacostasʼ role model.
We asked Philip Christophet to speak to the Greek News about Nickʼs election.
“The election of my nephew Nick Karacostas is a tribute to his grandparents Nick and Eleni Christophoridis, the pillar of the family, and also a tribute to his parents Andreas and Soteroula Karacostas, who made sure that their children never forgot their roots and traditions and created for them the competitive environment to excel.
This young man, who came to the United States from Keryneia at the age of 3 years old, has excelled in education – becoming a New York attorney – in business and in his family. His wife Anna is also very active in the St Nicholas Parish in Flushing, where Nick is also an active member. To a degree, this is the American dream, that all of us want for our children and our grandchildren, to continue to follow these traditions.
AHEPA being one of the most prestigious organizations in the Greek American community, by electing one of our own, Nick Karacostas, indicates how they embrace the young people that climb up the ranks in the organization. Today we congratulate AHEPA and Nick and we wish him every success during his term as Supreme President.”
Q. Nick is a product of the Pancyprian, since his young age…
A. There is no question. He is a product of the Pancyprian, but also a product of the St Nicholas Church and a product of AHEPA that serves for over 25 years. This shows the importance of having our children involved in the community affaires and Nick has excelled in that.
Q. The relationship of PSEKA with the AHEPA was always excellent, but now with Nick as Supreme President, do you expect a much greater involvement?
A. PSEKA and AHEPA had always a wonderful relationship and dating back many presidents we have worked very closely together. AHEPA has been a staunch supporter of the Cyprus issue. With Nickʼs election we expect the efforts to be elevated and continue to work with them very closely.
