The delegates of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), elected A. Jack Georgalas, Seaford, Va., Supreme President for the 2003 – 2004 year. Georgalas was officially installed on Saturday, with the rest of the new Supreme Lodge and Board of Directors.
“It will be an honor and a privilege to serve as supreme president,” said Georgalas, who is of Cypriot descent. “I pledge the full support of the Supreme Lodge toward the fulfillment of our mission. Further, I aspire to explore avenues that would lead to the organization’s continued growth.”
The supreme president emphasized that a “team plan” with precise execution will take AHEPA to new heights in vital areas such as membership development and long-term financial growth.
Georgalas has held numerous elected offices and appointed positions during his AHEPA career at the chapter, district and national levels, including Chairman of the Board, Supreme Vice President, and Chairman of the Cyprus Hellenic Affairs Committee.
He is a member of Woodrow Wilson Chapter No. 241, Newport News, Va., one of the strongest chapters in the AHEPA family. In the community, Georgalas served as Parish Council President of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, a member of Leadership 100, and is an Archon in the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle.
The supreme president is the CEO of Tri-Cities Beverage Corp., and was a Commissioned Officer of the United States Marines Corps. Georgalas graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in commerce in 1952.
He is married to his childhood sweetheart, Mary, and has four children and seven grand children.
Georgalas, a 45-year Ahepan, defeated incumbent Supreme President Dr. James F. Dimitriou.
Supreme Lodge & Board of Directors Elections
The balance of the Supreme Lodge is a fine blend of veteran leadership combined with energetic newcomers. They are: Canadian President Lazarus Kalipolidis, Supreme Vice President Franklin Manios, Supreme Secretary Chris Economides, Jr., Supreme Treasurer Tom Owens, Supreme Counselor Dean Selimos, and Supreme Athletic Director Dr. Monthe N. Kofos.
The eight Supreme Governors are: Tassos Chronis, Anthony Drakos, Nick Matthews, Cosmos Marandos, Chris Peppas, George Scarveles, George Sinadinos, and Steve G Trent (Triantafel).
Nicholas Karacostas, Alex Katsafanas, and E.P. Terry Mitchell were elected to three-year terms on the Board of Directors. Lee G. Rallis, Denver, was re-elected Chairman of the Board. Gus J. James and Manuel Scarmoutsos were elected Vice Chairman and Secretary of the Board, respectively.
Also, James Broomas was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Auditors.
AHEPA Family Elections
The remaining organizations that comprise the AHEPA family also held elections. Angela Kavounas was elected Grand President of the Daughters of Penelope, Dino Mitsios was elected Supreme President of the Sons of Pericles, and Alana Beba Gavrilis was elected Grand President of the Maids of Athena.
