New York.- The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, the Cyprus Federation of America, the Metropolis of New Jersey, and other Greek – American organizations held farewell events in honor of Consul General of Greece in New York, Aghi Balta, who, early next month will be assuming her duties as Greece’s Ambassador to Chile.
Ms. Balta, in her thank-you speeches, referred to her “valuable experience” gained from “hard work”, “pure patriotism” and the “ongoing contribution” of the Greek – American community.
In regard to the economic crisis affecting Greece, she stressed that “Everywhere and throughout Europe, there are similar problems and dead-ends. We were the only ones who said that we were wrong and wanted to se things right. It is not easy, but we will make efforts through unfavorable circumstances, owing to the global economic conditions. But, remember me, Greece will overcome everything”.
Among others, Archbishop Demetrios of America, NY Assemblywoman, Aravella Simotas, the President of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, Elias Tsekeridis, the President of the Cyprus Federation of America, Peter Papanicolaou and other representatives from Greek – American organizations, referred to the “professional diligence” of the honoree, and the “excellent cooperation” they had with her.
