Thessaloniki.- At the opening ceremony of Thessalonikiʼsʼ celebrations, Prime Minister sent a message to Skopje stressing that countries who want to enter EU and NATO have to respect the principles of national justice, of smooth neighboring and have to avoid provoking. Greece is a country model for all neighbor countries, Mr. Karamanlis said pointing out that if Skopje responds to all these preconditions then Greece will be a constituent ally-friend and partner. Meanwhile, EU stressed the need for new reconstructive, mutual accepted solution on the name issue on its draft progress report on FYROM. According to Greek diplomatic sources the European Union report on Skopje is considered positive but can be further improved. Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry has not commended on the issue as the final report will be released to public on November 6. Discussion on the name issue of Skopje, a few days before November 1st when special US envoy Matthew Nimetz on Skopje will meet with Greek and FYROM delegates, heats up.
Former New Democracy president Mr. Miltiadis Evert in his interview in Eleftheros Typos newspaper suggested a Commission of Political Leaders to be held on the Skopje issue. Mr. Evert states that Greek people should take a vote on the issue. Meanwhile, 68% of citizens rejects Macedonia name for Skopje according to MARC gallop conducted for Ethnos tis Kyriakis newspaper. FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) announces that it is going to compromise on the name issue as the preservation of the institutional name of the country was decided at the meeting held in Skopje.
