Montreal.- The newly formed Cyprus Association for the Promotion of Milk Products proudly announced its début and launch of its “CheesEU” marketing campaign at SIAL Montréal 2007 – The North American Food Marketplace. The Association will sponsor a Cyprus Dairy Pavilion at SIAL to showcase the delicious and unique sheepʼs and goatʼs milk cheeses, such as Halloumi®, produced in the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus.
The Cyprus Association for the Promotion of Milk Products was formed in January 2007 as the result of a joint project between The Republic of Cyprus and the European Union. Its mission is to increase trade and consumer awareness and appreciation of Cyprus sheep and goat cheese products in the U.S. and Canadian markets. In North America the two-year initiative will include among others in store tasting programs, trade and consumer advertising and trade exhibitions such as SIAL. The Association has selected the former Trade Commissioner of Cyprus to North America, Mr. Dennis C. Droushiotis, as Managing Director to lead its marketing initiatives from offices based in New York.
“Cyprus is a Mediterranean island nation steeped in ancient history and myth. However, it is no myth that our unique national cheese, Halloumi®, has been winning over Canadian consumers with its delicious flavour and versatile recipes,” notes Droushiotis. He added that Halloumi® has been granted an Official Mark in Canada for its authenticity as well as a registered trademark by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. “Our marks in Canada are significant so as to ensure that the Canadian consumer will be enjoying authentic Halloumi® from Cyprus made in the unique historical methods and traditional manner.”
More and more Canadians will have the opportunity to enjoy Cyprus traditional cheeses, through the “CheesEU” campaign, particularly Halloumi®, as imports into Canada are destined to grow. The SIAL Exhibition is an opportunity for industry experts such as restaurateurs, chefs, importers, distributors and retail store owners to sample and savour these fine cheeses. Visitors will delight in learning the endless variety of ways that Halloumi® can be prepared. You can grill it, grate it, stuff it into ravioli, or eat it fresh. The aroma of Halloumi® being grilled or sautéed is especially irresistible, and food lovers at SIAL will follow their noses to the CheesEU Cyprus Dairy pavilion to try some. Also featured at the Pavilion will be Kefalotyri, along with Graviera, the two traditional hard cheeses made from goat and sheep milk.
The Cyprus Association for the Promotion of Milk Products showcased these fine dairy products at SIAL at its CheesEU Pavilion, at the Palais des Congrès in Montréal from 28-30 March 2007.
