Overseas Cypriots, who convened last week in Nicosia in the framework of their 13th World Congress, expressed their strong support towards the Cypriot government regarding the Cyprus issue and reassured that they would intensify their efforts for a just and viable solution of the Cyprus problem.
Speaking at a press Conference marking the conclusion of the World Congress, International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus’ (PSEKA) President, Philip Christopher state that Overseas Cyprus will start immediately after returning to their countries to put pressure to the governments, asking for changes to the Annan plan.
In their resolution to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the organisations express certainty that ”a true reflection by the international community of the reasons of the failure of the Secretary General’s latest effort, namely the intransigence and lack of political will on the part of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot leadership, will enhance the prospects for success of further efforts”.
The overseas Cypriots express ”wholehearted support and appreciation to US President George Bush for his personal as well as his government’s active involvement and support of the UN Secretary General’s efforts for finding a solution to the Cyprus problem”.
The overseas Cypriots consider that ”the recent initiative of the Turkish side concerning the partial easing of restrictions on movement is designed to strengthen the authority of the occupation regime and to undermine the UN framework as a means for reaching a comprehensive settlement”.
