Coventry, RI.- A group of Democratic Hellenic-American state elected officials from across the country have signed a letter to President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. congratulating him on his victory and pledging to work with the administration on issues of shared concern. Rhode Island State Senator Lou Raptakis (D-33) helped to organize the effort and said the signatories are committed to working with the Biden administration and educating members of Congress in their respective states about issues of concern to the Hellenic-American community.
“Our group is grateful to welcome the Biden administration and its ambitious agenda to craft a national approach to the COVID-19 pandemic, to provide vital relief funds to the American people and to address the economic crisis caused by the virus,” said Raptakis. “At the same time, we want to look ahead to offering ourselves as a resource to the Biden administration, as a group of Hellenic-American elected officials in the states who are well-positioned to work with our Congressional delegations to keep them informed and seek their support on issues of concern to the Hellenic-American community.”
Fifteen legislators from states across the country signed on to the letter, which represents a continued commitment by Hellenic-American state officials to serve as a resource, coming together to support the Greek-American alliance and to work with members of Congress to support efforts to bolster that crucial alliance. Raptakis said the group will be active on issues ranging from trying to curb Turkish aggression in the eastern Mediterranean, bolstering the NATO alliance and protecting the rights and religious freedoms of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
As the letter noted, “We look forward to standing with you now as you lead America at this time of significant challenges and great promise.”
