Coordinated Effort of Hellenes
Special to the Greek News
The visit of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras with President Donald Trump has the potential to accomplish a great deal. It presents an opportunity for Prime Minister Tsipras to help President Trump gain an awareness of Greece’s incredible value to America. For instance, Greece is one of only three countries (beyond the British Empire) allied with the United States in every international conflict of the 20th Century and Greece’s military base at Souda Bay, Crete is of vital importance to America. Few of America’s top policymakers realize the critical importance of Souda to our military efforts in the Middle East and to America’s anti-terrorism efforts in the greater region. Souda is the only port between Virginia Beach and the Persian Gulf where an aircraft carrier can be serviced dockside.
This meeting is also an opportunity for Prime Minister Tsipras to move this Administration to be at least as aggressive as the previous Administration in pushing the IMF to treat Greece more fairly. As a businessman, President Trump will understand that debt forgiveness is necessary to foster a flourishing Greek economy.
on Tsipras’ US Visit
Special to the Greek News
My first expectation is for Prime Minister Tsipras to make a serious presentation in regards of the importance of Greece for the Unites States, especially now with Turkey playing games in region and with Kurdistan seeking recognition of its independence. I think the role of Greece has become extremely important and the Prime Minister should make it a very fine case.
The second thing, he should ask the Unites States to support Greece with its Exclusive Economic Zone, so to not being afraid to exploit its natural resources.
The third most important thing is to ask for support in regards to the Greek financial crisis.
Prime Minister Tsipras should make the case that Greece has been a strong supporter of the West. It remains a loyal ally and partner of the United States, fighting by its side throughout all the wars in the 20th Century. Greece is the only country that meets its NATO obligations and thus it deserves to be supported.
Prime Minister Tsipras he should stress the importance of the trilateral agreement Greece has signed with Cyprus and Israel. Out of the whole region these three countries are the only basic democracies and true allies of the United States.
I also expect Prime Minister Tsipras to bring up the Cyprus issue with President Trump. It’s his obligation.
