New York.- On Thursday the Taminent Regular Democratic Club, based in Astoria, endorsed community activist, attorney and lifelong resident of Astoria, Aravella Simotas, for the 36th Assembly District. This Assembly seat is currently held by Assemblyman Mike Gianaris who has announced his candidacy for the State Senate.
The Taminent Regular Democratic Club members who were on hand for the Club’s endorsement include, pictured from left – right in the attached photo, Democratic State Committeeman Gus Prentzas, Athena Onorato, State Assemblyman Mike Gianaris, State Senator George Onorato, Democratic District Leader Gloria Aloise, community leader Gloria D’Amico, and City Councilman Peter F. Vallone, Jr.
Aravella Simotas is an attorney and lifelong resident of Astoria. A graduate of local New York City public schools PS 17, IS 126, and William C. Bryant High School, as well as Fordham University and Fordham Law School, Simotas has a long record of civic involvement. She is a long serving member of Community Board 1, the United Community Civic Association, and the Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund. Simotas is also a former district representative for former New York City Council Speaker Peter Vallone, Sr. and Councilmember Peter Vallone, Jr. She and her husband, John Katsanos, attend the St. Catherine and George Greek Orthodox Church of Astoria.
