UNITED NATIONS.- President of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos, will visit New York from 23-27 September to attend the 58th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Foreign Minister George Iacovou, along with ambassador Tasos Tzionis, will accompany President Papadopoulos. Mr Iacovo will address on Monday the special session of the UN General Assembly on AIDS. The Greek Government will be represented by the Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tasos Giannitsis.
Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou will arrive on the 24th, to attend the 58th Session. He will address the Assembly on Friday. A day earlier he will meet with his Turkish counterpart, Abdullah Gul, to sign an agreement on demining. On Friday, along with Ambassador Stavros Lambrinidis he will attend an event organized at the UN headquarters o promote Olympic Truce.
During his stay in New York, the Cypriot President will hold a series of important meetings, including a meeting with the UN Secretary General Mr. Kofi Annan and with the Five Permanent Members of the Security Council. He will also have a series of bilateral meetings with Heads of State who will be present at the UN General Assembly. Furthermore, the President will have contacts with the American and International press and with members of the Greek American Community.
On Tuesday he will meet with Archbishop Demetrios at the Archdiocese headquarters. Friday September 26, President Papadopoulos will attend a reception given to his honor by the Cyprus Federation of America and PSEKA, at the Terrace on the Park.
President Papadopoulos will address the General Assembly on 25 September at approximately 11.00 a.m. and will give a Press Conference at 11.30 a.m., at the United Nations. Foreign Minister Iacovou will also have a series of meeting during his stay in New York.
