Athens.- The European future of Turkey, in view of the Permanent Representative Council on August 31, was on the focus of the discussion between Foreign Minister Petros Molyviatis and his British counterpart Jack Straw after the latter’s initiative. They also discussed the informal Foreign Ministry on September 1-2.
Earlier on Thursday, the FM met with a multi-member delegation of the US Congress. The main issue of the meeting was the developments in the Middle East and the Balkans, as well as Turkey’s European future. According to diplomatic sources, the American Congressmen, which were accompanied by US Ambassador to Athens Charles Reis, showed special interest over the Greek views on current events, and asked for information over the country’s financial situation. According to the same sources, the prospects of the bilateral trade relations were also discussed, while the excellent relations between Athens and Washington were reconfirmed.
