Kenilworth, N.J. – His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos and the entire Metropolis of New Jersey hosted a most successful 60th Anniversary Luncheon for Saint Basil Academy on the Sunday of Orthodoxy with all of the proceeds benefiting the Academy. The magnificent event, chaired by Mrs. Evellyn Tsiadis and attended by over 500 Faithful, was completely underwritten by the Pines Manor of Edison, New Jersey.
In addition to highlighting the many philanthropic endeavors of St. Basil Academy and its emphasis on providing a refuge for children in need, the Luncheon also recognized the many contributions of the Saint Basil Academy Teachers College Alumni. Praised for their unending and selfless contributions to Greek Education in America, the alumni present were presented with an elegant Certificate of Appreciation by His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey and Fr. Constantine L. Sitaras, Executive Director of the Academy. The Teachers College alumnus, Mrs. Stavroula Panas, gave a heartfelt and moving response on behalf of all of the recipients. She spoke of the extraordinary ministry that had taken place for more than thirty years at the Saint Basil Teachers College.
Special Recognition was also given to the Metropolis of New Jersey Philoptochos Society for their many efforts in providing vital financial and emotional support to Saint Basil Academy. In attendance were Mrs. Vasiliki Drogaris, President of the Metropolis of New Jersey Philoptochos, and Mrs. Georgia Skeadas, National Philoptochos President.
A highlight of the Banquet was the very entertaining musical interlude provided by an ensemble of the Eastern Federation of Greek Orthodox Church Choirs and Musicians, directed by Mrs. Kathryn Athanasoulas. Especially moving was the musical presentation by students of the Academy who sang so beautifully for the appreciative audience. One of the current tenth grade students, Tommy, spoke of his life-saving and life-transforming experiences at the Academy and thanked His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos and everyone for their love and support.
His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos, visibly moved by the extraordinary turnout, enthusiastically thanked all who came in support of the Academy, especially the Ladies Philoptochos and numerous other benefactors, such as the Pan Gregorian Enterprises, as well as the alumni of the St. Basil Teachers College for their contributions to our young people in the area of Greek Education.
