Athens.- A DNA test on Friday confirmed that the Bulgarian Roma couple, Atanas Rusev and Sasha Ruseva are actually the birth parents of Maria, the five-year-old child found living with a Roma family that were not her real parents in Farsala, central Greece, two weeks ago, the AFP news agency reported.
“The DNA tests showed that Sasha Ruseva is the biological mother and Atanas Rusev the biological father of the child called Maria,” Bulgaria’s Interior ministry general secretary Svetlozar Lazarov told reporters.
Maria, actually believed to be between 4 and 6 years old, is now expected to be taken to a Bulgarian welfare reception centre and then be given to a foster family, said Yana Kaneva Welfare official in Stara Zagora, according to the BGNES news agency, the AFP reports.
In another case, a DNA test has shown that a 43-year-old Roma woman in Ano Liosia, Attica is the birth mother of a two-month-old baby found in a Roma settlement in Mytilene, on the Aegean island of Lesvos, police announced on Saturday. The woman was subjected to a DNA test and then released, they said.
