Athens.- A 26-year-old man who held three women hostage at the Kastalia Clinic in Elliniko for four hours on Thursday was remanded in custody on Saturday, after his deposition, and was incarcerated in a prison psychiatric clinic.
Panagiotis Hatzidakis was arrested on Thursday afternoon in a raid by EKAM special forces police that ended the hostage crisis without injuries, and a a public prosecutor on Friday filed criminal charges against him.
The felony charges against Hatzidakis include several counts of abduction, while misdemeanour charges were also filed for weapons possession and use.
The man was a former patient at the psychiatric clinic, who had been released six weeks earlier after being treated for psychiatric problems and drug abuse.
A lawyer representing the suspect said his client suffered from mental health problems and asked for a psychiatric evaluation.
According to police, he broke into the clinic armed with two guns that he used to take the three hostages, as well as a video recorder that he used to tape footage for a TV ‘exclusive’.
