Argonauts Association of Nomos Magnisia commemorating event for the Jews of Volos and the saviors
New York.- “When you save a life, you save the whole world,” said Asher Matathias, a Jewish Greek and a professor of Political Science at St. Johnʼs University, speaking at an event honoring the memory of Holocaust victims. The event was organized by the Association of Nomos Magnisias, “Argonauts”, a very active New York based community organization, at the Stathakeio Cultural Centre in Astoria. It was held under the auspices of the Consulate General of Greece in New York.
Professor Matathias, who comes from Volos, spoke on the theme: “The Jews of Greece: A long history with a future”, stressing “the brave actions of Greek Christians, who, risking their lives, protected and saved Jewish families, during the German Occupation of Greece”.
