CHICAGO, IL — Hellenic American Academy, one of the Midwest’s largest Greek American schools will host their annual Gala on February 17, 2018 to kick off their 2018 fundraising initiative: “The Time is Now”. The gala begins at 6 P.M at the Loews Chicago O’Hare (5300 N. River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018)
All proceeds will benefit the Academy’s 2018 initiatives which include enhancements to the technology program, projectors for each classroom, chrome books for each student and technological resources for the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program.
The gala will celebrate the school’s evolution and its future. The Time is Now theme is appropriate as the Academy sets its sights on continuing to redefine Greek American education for the modern era. Housed in its new location, the cause for celebration is great indeed as the school continues to grow and outperform expectations resulting in an over 20% increase in enrollment at the Academy’s beautiful day school.
Two Hellenic business leaders who have been instrumental in preserving the Hellenic culture will also be awarded.
2018 Honorees Heritage Award Recipient: George Behrakis.
George is a Greek-American businessman, medical researcher, retired pharmacist and philanthropist, who has contributed to many organizations and establishments. Service Award Recipient: Peter Maroutsos.
Peter is finance and operations executive in the financial services industry and believes that is it critical that we preserve our Hellenic culture.

Over a thousand Greek American children have been educated at the Academy over the last decade, making it the largest Greek American educational institution in the Midwest. The Academy’s vision is creating a learning environment where young generations can discover their roots, cultivate their talents, and learn the importance of giving back.
