New York, NY – A significant and innovative step which supports and rewards the academic excellence of students who graduate from the 23 Greek American Day Schools of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America nationwide was announced by the Faith Endowment Fund for Orthodoxy and Hellenism.
Consistent with the purpose of the Faith Endowment which is to “support the National Ministries and institutions of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, with special attention to programs that promote Hellenism, … Greek education scholarships, …and youth”, these monetary awards will be given to the valedictorian and salutatorian of each graduating class. A total of 43 recipients graduating in June 2007 will receive these awards.
These awards are part of this yearʼs grant of $500,000.00 of the Faith Endowment to the Archdiocese for support and development of programs related to educational initiatives promoting Orthodoxy and Hellenism.
Commenting on this initiative by Faith Endowment, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios stated that it is in the context of a general review and updating of the measures and programs connected with Greek Education and Culture throughout the Archdiocese of America that this generous act comes as an important first step towards this direction.
In the metropolitan area of New York City, Archbishop Demetrios will personally present the awards to the worthy students during the various Graduation Ceremonies which he will attend within the next few days.
