NEW YORK – On Thursday, June 24, at the General Assembly meeting of the Chian Federation, the Board of Directors of the organization overwhelmingly approved a proposal to create the “Chian Federation Scholarship Foundation.” Scholarships have been given to deserving Greek-American students of the New York metropolitan area by the Chian Federation for years with the money coming from whatever was left over in the operating budget. The new Scholarship Foundation, after a few false starts over the last couple of years, will commence operations in the near future and addresses all shortcomings of the old system. Some of the highlights of the new “Chian Federation Scholarship Foundation” are:
Once the structure is in place the organization hopes that societies and individuals as well as companies will embrace this new endeavor of the Chian Federation. There is much more work to be done to fulfill the promises of the new Scholarship Foundation but the approved proposal will allow the Federation to play a positive role in the education of our youth.
