Chicago, IL.- Award-winning filmmaker Dr. Jenna Constantine and her film company, KaplaniKid Productions, have produced a film exposing the July 20, 1974 illegal Turkish invasion of the island Republic of Cyprus. The film IF APHRODITE HAD ARMS will be unveiled at a Private Preview in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, July 22 to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the Turkish Military occupation of Cyprus. Starting in September, IF APHRODITE HAD ARMS, which screened at the Festival de Cannes 2007, will screen nationally across major markets of the United States including New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. The film is also set for a European premiere in the Czech Republic this fall.
IF APHRODITE HAD ARMS, a documentary film about Cyprus, is a call to action demanding the withdrawal of the 40,000 Turkish Troops that illegally invaded, occupied and have divided 37% of the Republic of Cyprus since July 20, 1974.
Cyprus is the mythological birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty.
IF APHRODITE HAD ARMS traces the tender passion of Aphroditeʼs island, once celebrated as the Center of Peace and Love for the whole earth and distinguished with 11,000 years of Hellenic history, set against the brutal reality of the illegal 1974 invasion-occupation and continuing division of the Republic of Cyprus. The film also merges clips from the 1960 film EXODUS filmed on Cyprus, to remind us that the British used Cyprus to forcibly hold 50,000 Jews in detention camps after WW II. There were 2,000 Jewish babies born in those ʽdetentionʼ camps on Cyprus.
IF APHRODITE HAD ARMS exposes the illegal invasion, occupation and division of the island Republic of Cyprus which has resulted in the creation of a Turkish-Cypriot breakaway State, condemned and unrecognized by the international community and in violation of countless international laws and United Nations Resolutions. Audiences will stand at the Green Line that divides Cyprus, hear the words of Greek-Cypriot refugees in Cyprus and concerned American citizens calling for the immediate withdrawal of Turkish Military Troops from Cyprus; and, Armenian demands to recognize the Genocide of April 24, 1915.
